Frank Mwiti, CEO of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), wants to breathe new life into the leading financial trading place in East Africa. The strategy aims to attract more retail investors to the stock exchange. However, more measures will be needed to ensure that the Nairobi Stock Exchange catches up internationally.
He recently revealed a five-year strategy aimed at attracting 9 million retail investors, both domestically and in the diaspora. Financial market participants in Kenya assessed this plan as ambitious. Approximately 97.5% of the 1.5 million accounts used for trading shares and bonds are inactive currently.
